Management Issues

As you’ve noticed, there’s been quite a bit of downtime today. We’re truly sorry about this but we’ll have the site back up and running shortly.

The truth of the matter is that the staff (namely myself) have had a falling out with Jarudin.
Over the past few months, I’ve been persuading staff to adopt the ‘chan’ suffix in their IRC usernames. In most, the staff have complied.
Xiochan, Maluchan, Dukichan, etc.
Jarudin however refuses to comply.

What he said:

Chiyachan, I refuse to change my name to Jaruchan. I like it how it is currently. I don’t see any real reason to rename it to please you.

–Jarudin–

It upsets me greatly, but I think that standardisation of names is important for a community this large, so this change which is taking place will solve many problems.

With the help of Dubkatz and Force, we’ve disabled the entire site while we edit the entire user database to add the word, “chan” to all usernames. Jarudin has also been demoted to mod status for lack of complying.

We are the Chan.
Prepare to be assimilated.
Resistance is futile.

In other words, we hope to be online again soon.

A Spicy Surprise this season

kureshii has been scarce lately because kureshii is super-busy with a bunch of stuff, but before kureshii leaves, kureshii will leave a blog post,” says kureshii as he tries to be a good host (I know MISAKA is pretty annoying, but that manner of speech is so infectious >_<)

Today’s post is about one of the biggest, if not the biggest surprise this season: Saucy Barmaid-chan!

To fansub or not to fansub

For the few of you who know me (or rather, the few of you that actually care), you know that I have gotten into fansubbing lately. It was partly on a whim, and partly to see just what it’s like to be a fansubber.

Technically I’m part of two groups who have taken different approaches to fansubbing. I can’t really say which is better, or which I like more, but I can’t say it’s all bad either.

Anyway, so I’ve worked on a few projects so far and I’ve gotten better along the way. So now I’ve reached the point where I wonder why I still do it.

I initially didn’t want to do fansubbing just because I didn’t think that I would have time to work on it on a weekly basis, but thankfully one of the groups let gave me the opportunity to try without the weekly deadlines to deal with. Then I joined another to work on a side project that didn’t have weekly deadlines either. Fast forward a few months and here I am, working on a series on a weekly basis -__-. This is actually my second series that I’m working on. The first one I was somehow convinced to QC even though I never signed up to do that, and the second one I’ve been made to edit because the editor has gone permanently AFK it seems and somehow I ended up editing another series next season.

Anyway, that’s just me ranting since I know I’ll quit at some point, and then deal with all the attempts to guilt me back that will probably happen (you know who you are). Fansubbing isn’t particularly FUN to me or anything, but it seems to be another thing that I just end up doing for some unknown reason and then continuing for some amount of time.

Anyway, there’s no real point to this point since it’s just a rant, so…. yeah….
Actually, for a rant, it’s pretty short >_>
Anyway, I blame you! (You know who you are).

Regression

Ok, so I’m many months late on this rant, but anyway.

13 years ago, Madhouse animated Tetsuwan Birdy. This is what it looked like:

This year, in 2009, A1 Pictures animated Tetsuwan Birdy DECODE 2. This is what it looks like:

Ok, so it’s a 13-ep series vs an OVA. Madhouse vs A1. Digital techniques vs traditional handrawn techniques. And admittedly DECODE didn’t look that bad consistently, I just picked on it at a low point. BUT STILL! We are regressing unacceptably!

Whatever that sorry excuse for an image is, it’s atrocious.

(No, “artistic direction” is not a valid excuse.)

Complete and utter FAIL.

It’s been a while since I’ve done this, but let’s break down the entire discussion between a guy-who-PMed-Jarudin and Jarudin with annotations to see where he went wrong.
First of all, I will start by re-writing EVERYTHING he said so that when this gets posted on the blog, people are able to read it without getting eye strain.

I’ve decided to annotate my interpretation of his messages since it reads easier. Nothing personal.

Glossary of Terms

Quick translation guide for those wondering what the various terms you see in support chat logs mean.

my brother – person’s brother who is really said person but is too embarrassed to admit it
my roommate – person’s roommate who is really said person but is too embarrassed to admit it
my boy/girlfriend – person’s boy/girlfriend who is really said person but is too embarrassed to admit it
problem with account – problem with seeding and ratio management
tracker error screwed up my stats – hacked client changed my stats
I don’t know how this might have happened – If I pretend to be stupid and ignorant hopefully you’ll be just as stupid and ignorant
how do I seed if I can’t download? – I didn’t read the wiki.

Anyway, those of you with technical concerns not related to ratio, feel free to drop by with your questions 🙂
