Something About Nothing

Well, I’ll be doing something I figured I would never do since I have nothing to say: write a blog entry. Honestly, I’m not sure what I will say here, since I can say a lot about nothing (If you ask some people that I have sent Christmas cards to, they can attest to how well I can fill it up while not knowing what to actually say) since I really have nothing to say.

Nightly ambrosia

First of all this is actually my first official blog post ever. I never felt much like blogging but now that we have BoxTorrents blog I thought it appropriate to add something every now and then. So here it is!

I have never liked alcohol much. I don’t like the grainy taste of beer or whisky. When in Japan I tried some sake but it tastes a lot like beer and whisky, although it’s made from rice. I’m more of a liquor person I guess. Mix drinks also do well for me, so long as they’re not mixed with gin which tastes like soap even if you dilute it with orange juice, in case you like that stuff mix it with tonic to get mouthwash or car polish …

I never understood what is so great about alcohol. I guess I don’t really have a strong preference for alcoholic beverages because I’m just as happy with some tea or juice. Most people seem to frown upon it, other people accept it. In all though, I take pride in choosing for myself what I like so if I feel like drinking I will drink, else I will stick to soda.

What is your experience with different kinds of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages? Do you drink even if you don’t want to drink sometimes?

Mocking “fail”

After considerable consideration, Jarudin has now implemented a new Help Form. This help form should hopefully make people willing to read the FAQ a lot more carefully….

Basically, if a user submits a help form requesting assistance when it is clearly in the FAQ or wiki, I am now allowed to openly mock them by blogging it and making all sorts of comments.

User beware, you’re in for a scare!
(Cookie for anyone knowing where that quote is ripped from.)

TL;DR: Ask for help without reading FAQ and get mocked in the Blog. ^_^

Read!

I know this has probably been addressed over, and over, then beaten to death with a stick, but it’s a point of discussion that comes up constantly amongst staff: users not reading our rules and guidelines.

For users from a site that specializes mainly in subbed anime, one would think they would be used to reading text … maybe we need some pretty pictures to go along with the words.

Look + Feel

It’s almost one in the morning, so I decided to post something for a change.

As many of you know, we do have a wiki and an FAQ to handle many of the questions that our users have as well as a forum section to deal with more detailed issues. Many people seem to get along just fine and find answers with very little effort.

But for some, there seems to be a deficiency in two key areas. Reading and Understanding.

Reading

As I said before, the wiki is a good resource for finding answers to many common problems. For some strange outlandish reason, certain people find it extremely difficult to read the help sections, or use the search function for that matter. Is it really that difficult to find answers? We get many requests per day to answer questions that are clearly and thoughtfully answered in the FAQ. Handling these requests are fairly annoying, and sometimes I feel the urge to not answer at all just to spite them for not reading the FAQ. But alas, ethics drive me to answer anyway (the tone of my response, however, depends mostly on my status at that moment).

Understanding

One of the major reasons I don’t handle offers as much as I used to is that it was simply too much trouble to chase after users to have them fix their torrents. When asked if they had read the upload guidelines, nearly everyone replies “Yes, I have!” Most of the time, common sense tells me “No, you haven’t” or “Do you understand it?” Understanding things and using logic is how the world works. Sometimes I wonder how these people get along without screwing up.

I wish I could say more but now it’s time for me to go. Bye~~

FLAC Corruption

Ughh… so recently I just found out that one of the FLAC torrents on BxT has MD5 mismatch, indicating FLAC field corruption. That got me worried about my FLACs so I went to check on them, and a few came up with similar issues as well >_<

Now I’m trying to fix them, and trying to come up with a system for keeping some parity data around for each album, just in case. Anyone has a similar system/setup for preventing file corruption?

[edit] Most of them are fixed now 🙂

Metal Gear Box

So, what happens when the InternetsTM is finally under lock-and-key and no one can download or upload anything without an IP being traced by 10 different monitoring agencies?

Random Idea #23
1. Build Metal Gear Rex
2. Modify it to deliver payloads consisting of hard drives and DVDs
3. Run and gun!

Enjoy your tracking-free copyright-infringing weapons delivery platform 😀

Blog Ahoy!

And so we enter the third edition of “The Blog“. For those who noticed a small change, congratulations! We have transferred from Nucleus to WordPress. This is mainly because I screwed up when choosing a blogging system and chose the worst we could get on our budget. All the other mods were being mean so I begged Jarudin to change us over.
This means that you can now register! (Link on the side.)
(Yes, this now means you have to login to post comments.)
Anyway, sit back, and enjoy the event. (Don’t sit too far back though or you won’t be able to read the blog!)

=====
Thanks for joining us for blog #3!
My wounds have finally healed up from last blogs violent massacre. I’m now wearing a Phantom of the Opera mask to cover the horrible puss-filled scars on my face, but hey, it’s good to be alive! I think both Chiya and I are starting to get the hang of this blog thing. Of course, we’re always looking for room to improve and new things to add. If you have any ideas or anything you want to submit, please get in contact with one of us!

In the meantime, keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times, sit back, and enjoy the blog. ^_^ (And please excuse my whilst I build a pipe organ in my basement to compliment the new mask…)

Sky Crawlers!

This month we see the film, “Sky Crawlers” being heartily recommended by Jarudin! As you can see though this log: “[18:51] <&Jarudin> do Sky Crawlers!”

Personally, this isn’t a film I have yet watched. Though I’ve heard from many people that it’s a film you shouldn’t miss out on. If anyone has more to add about this film, about why it’s so great, do leave a comment!
